Garfinkel’s becomes hip-hop heaven on Monday (Feb. 20) at 9 p.m. as legendary American rapper Raekwon performs live at the nightclub. Although an accomplished solo artist in his own right, Raekwon is most known as a member of the highly influential Staten Island, New York hip-hop collective Wu Tang Clan — featuring members Rza, Gza, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

Lamont Coleman (May 30, 1974 – Feb 15, 1999), better known by his stage name Big L. “BIG L IS HIP HOP”

A documentary is in the works titled Street Struck: The Big L Story (2012). About.com called him the seventeenth best MC of all time, and multiple writers at Allmusic have given him high praise.

Houston won two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards during her record-breaking career. Her album “Whitney” was the first female album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Charts. She has sold 200 million albums world wide. Houston holds an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities from Grambling State University in Louisiana. Houston had one child, Bobbi Kristina, with husband Bobby Brown. Houston and Brown were married from 1992-2007.

M.I.A. has plenty to share with the world today. Pitchfork kicked things off by premiering her latest single “Bad Girls,” which we first heard on her mixtape Vicki Leekx. Visuals for the Danja-produced track are expected on Friday, February 3 from Romain Gavras, the same director responsible for the rapper’s “Born Free” video. Next, during an interview with BBC Radio 1, M.I.A. confirmed that she will indeed be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, alongside Madonna and Nicki Minaj.

“Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius was found dead at his Sherman Oaks on home Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement sources said police arrived at Cornelius’ home around 4 a.m. He apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing.

The sources said there was no sign of foul play, but the Los Angeles Police Department was investigating. In a 2010 interview with The Times, he said he was excited about a movie project he was developing about “Soul Train.”

Months after his release from prison and rapper/Black Mafia Family member Bleu DaVinci has found himself in a bit of a feud with rapper Young Jeezy. DaVinci recently spoke with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club and revealed that his issue with Young Jeezy stems from the fact that the rapper allegedly isn’t supportive when it comes to the now incarcerated Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory.

“The issue now is the man running around man using Meech name like it’s like that and that little thing that Meech did on the tape for him that he keep playing on repeat was from 2009. He ain’t doing what he supposed to do.

There were rumors that Jay-Z and wifey Beyoncé gave Winfrey the honor and chose Hov’s homie Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith as the baby’s godfather. Still no word on whether or not Ty Ty will be Blue Ivy’s godfather, but when it comes to Oprah’s relationship with the baby the rumor is not true says the media queen’s bestie Gayle King. 

“Let me just say, if that’s true, it is news to her. It is news to her. You know, she was heading to South Africa when baby Blue was born,” King said of the rumors on Friday on her “CBS This Morning” news show.
