Michael Jackson Thriller Jacket Sold For 1.8 Milllion at a California Auction.

Michael Jackson’s iconic red and black leather jacket that he wore in the ‘Thriller‘ video has been sold for a massive $1.8 million.

The jacket was one of two jackets that Jackson used while shooting his horror themed dance moves and is one of the most identifiable costumes from the 1983 promo of Thriller.  It was put on auction in California over the weekend and on Sunday it was sold to a commodities trader from Texas for $1.8 million.  This final selling price far outstripped the original estimate of $200,000.  Milton Verret was the winning bidder and plans to use the jacket to raise money for children’s charities while a portion will go to the wildlife preserve where the King of Pop’s Bengal tigers reside.  Milton plans to display his latest acquisition at an Austin children’s hospital before sending it on tour to raise money for more children’s charities.  This sale comes on the second year anniversary of the King of Pop’s death on June 25th, 2009.

Verret, is also a philanthropist and has a history of making pop-culture purchases to benefit the less fortunate.  He paid $120,000for 2009 motorcycle signed by Jay Leno to benefit a New York children’s charity.  Would you buy Michael Jackson’s Thriller jacket?
